EMPOWERED, a 12 week business course to empower African-American entrepreneurs is presented in partnership by Archwood Exchange, Hustle PHX and Phoenix Local Organizing Committee. This course is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs looking for support to bring their dreams to life. This is also for early-stage entrepreneurs that are ready to take their business to the next level.
About Hustle PHX
Hustle PHX is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing an intellectual, social and financial resource to individuals interested in starting their own business or have started their own business. Motivated by Christian faith, we encourage the creation of sustainable business ventures that affirm the dignity of people and lead to the flourishing of all communities in Phoenix.
Through our program, we provide a limited number of carefully selected entrepreneurs with three essential kinds of capital:
INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL
Education and skill development will be provided through an online curriculum sponsored by the Acton School of Business, including a weekly discussion and experiential learning module.
SOCIAL CAPITAL
Entrepreneurs will be given mentors who are currently in business and who can provide assistance in the process of incubating, designing, launching, and scaling new businesses.
FINANCIAL CAPITAL
Entrepreneurs will participate in a “Pitch Day,” giving potential investors the opportunity to hear pitches and contribute to ventures as they see potential.
About Archwood Exchange
Archwood Exchange was founded in 2016 with the goal of creating a hub for black business in Phoenix, Arizona. The original vision was to open a store that only sold products made by black-owned companies. After a trip to Houston where we discovered the Houston Buy Black Marketplace, we decided to that a Buy Black Marketplace is what Phoenix needed. We hosted our first Marketplace in May of 2016 and featured over 30 new and experienced black owned businesses. The Marketplace also quickly became a place to build community and learn about various resources and initiatives designed to benefit the community. The Marketplace is still held every first Saturday of the month in downtown Phoenix and has grown to be a staple in the community. Archwood Exchange strives to be a resource for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs alike by assisting businesses in need of education, capital, connections and more.
About Phoenix LOC
Since 2015, the Phoenix Local Organizing Committee (PHXLOC) has been organizing and mobilizing people of color towards change and self-determination. Our goal is to build a global community that is socially connected, economically strong, politically independent, and culturally unified at every level of society. We are a grassroots organization. We are dedicated to effectuating change by putting justice within reach of our Black and Indigenous communities in a way that is fair and equitable. Justice is one of the eternal principles that has been decreed for every living creature. Our mission is to see justice applied equally regardless of creed, class or color.
